About the Initiative

The Climate Futures Initiative (CFI), a core component of the Dartmouth Climate Collaborative, is a collaborative process working to map out a vision for climate scholarship and engagement at Dartmouth. Directed by Professor Laura Ogden, the Special Advisor to the Provost on Climate and Sustainability, CFI is working to identify Dartmouth's distinct strengths in climate research and teaching and make recommendations to help amplify those strengths.

CFI hosted a series of faculty colloquia, including sessions on Dartmouth’s decarbonization initiative, the Organic Farm, the Arctic and cold regions, forest lands, climate scholarship across campus, and climate in the curriculum. The sessions encouraged open and expansive faculty participation in the conversation around climate change, with a goal of understanding what others are doing, coming up with actionable ideas for future research and teaching engagements, and creating community.

In addition to the CFI colloquia, the Office of the Provost is providing support and funding for several pilot research and community engagement projects. CFI will continue to work to develop opportunities to deepen student engagement and intellectual inquiry around climate and sustainability.
