GenAI Initiative
About the Initiative
Dartmouth has launched a year-long Generative Artificial Intelligence or GenAI Initiative to strategically explore its future in AI research and teaching. Led by Associate Professor and Special Advisor to the Provost on AI, James “Jed” Dobson, the GenAI Initiative fosters inclusive dialogue, interdisciplinary collaboration, and national partnerships, while aiming to assess Dartmouth’s current AI capabilities, spark new ideas, and strengthen AI-related pedagogy.
Recent work includes:
Implementing a secure and free chatbot platform, Dartmouth Chat, that provides access to the latest commercial and open multi-modal models to the entire Dartmouth community;
Partnering with the Montgomery Fellows Program to host Agency, Speech, and Ethics in the AI Era a series of four Montgomery Fellows visiting Dartmouth for the winter and spring terms;
Introducing the Critical AI lecture series;
Hosting regular social gatherings for the Dartmouth AI community;
Facilitating workshops for faculty interested in learning more about the use of AI in the classroom;
Providing opportunities for teaching grants for faculty integrating AI into the classroom; and
Launching a pilot project to introduce AI literacy into the undergraduate curriculum.
