An Academic Strategy & Institutional Effectiveness Fellow may propose a project that does not fit within the other identified focus areas, but has strong potential to advance Dartmouth’s academic mission. The Fellow will surface a compelling, innovative idea that addresses an emerging need or opportunity to strengthen Dartmouth’s academic enterprise. An open call proposal will be grounded in a clearly defined priority, with the expectation that the project will contribute meaningfully to Dartmouth’s academic effectiveness or institutional structures, by improving student learning, enhancing research infrastructure, or increasing the effectiveness of faculty and staff work.

An Artificial Intelligence, Judgment and Reflection Fellow will strengthen and support Dartmouth’s discussions around AI by dedicating focused time and institutional support to a Presidential-priority area, with special attention to safeguarding Dartmouth’s core humanistic values in the wake of AI developments. The Fellow will work with the president’s Faculty Leadership Group on Artificial Intelligence to support and expand Dartmouth’s institutional goals around the understanding and ethical use of AI. 

A Critical Humanities Fellow will strengthen and support Dartmouth’s research and teaching environment by highlighting diverse theoretical and critical perspectives. This work will support mutual understanding and dialogue as well as look for opportunities for greater collaboration between humanists and scientists. The Fellow will develop a framework for identifying strategies and processes for facilitating collaboration across Dartmouth.

A Curricular Pluralism and Pedagogy of Controversy Fellow will conduct a study of selected Dartmouth syllabi. The Fellow will develop an analytic framework for the study of scholarly contestation in teaching, and recommend constructive mechanisms, such as workshops, consultations, and course-development grants, to support intellectually-expansive pedagogy.

An International Engagement Fellow will strengthen Dartmouth’s global profile by dedicating focused time and institutional support to a faculty-identified priority area, in collaboration with the Vice Provost for Academic and International Affairs. The Fellow will facilitate peer benchmarking, examine potential partnerships, and identify best practices for encouraging faculty research engagement abroad.  

A Scholarly Excellence Fellow will strengthen Dartmouth’s scholarly impact by finding actionable opportunities to unleash the creative and research potential of our scholarly community. The Fellow will champion high-impact research, scholarship and creativity, including considerations to funding, infrastructure, and other academic obligations. The Fellow will develop a comprehensive framework to identify practical, fiscally sustainable strategies to address these challenges, allowing Dartmouth to achieve its full scholarly potential across all disciplines.

A Workforce Development Fellow will sharpen Dartmouth’s focus on and awareness of our mission to produce the next generation of workforce leaders through creation of opportunities for our students (undergraduate and graduate), preparing them to enter into an increasingly demanding and complex workforce.  Dartmouth’s investment in critical and nuanced engagement with AI tools should also be harnessed to this mission. The Fellow will choose a faculty member to work with other faculty and staff peers across the institution, with potential for alumni engagement, to consider how Dartmouth can better prepare its students to keep pace with rapid changes in the workforce over the next quarter century.
