The Search for a New Guarini Dean

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to share that we are launching the search for the next dean of the Frank J. Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies, and we invite nominations and applications for the position by Friday, May 15.

Please join me in thanking Jon Kull for his longstanding leadership of graduate education at Dartmouth and for agreeing to continue in the role through June 2026. Since his appointment in 2012, Jon has been instrumental in shaping the evolution of the School of Graduate and Advanced Studies—leading its transition from the Office of Graduate Studies in 2016 and serving as its inaugural dean, and guiding its growth following its naming in honor of Frank Guarini in 2018. His stewardship has had a meaningful and lasting impact on the institution.

The Guarini School serves as Dartmouth’s central home for graduate education, doctoral programs, research training, and postdoctoral affairs. The dean provides vision, leadership, and management for the school, working in close partnership with the Provost’s Office, faculty, and the broader Dartmouth community to advance excellence in graduate and advanced education. The role includes setting strategic direction, strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration, and supporting a vibrant and inclusive academic community.

The dean also plays a key role in shaping institutional priorities related to graduate education and research training; supporting faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars; and ensuring the continued development of programs, resources, and policies that enhance scholarly success. The position includes responsibility for academic leadership, strategic planning, and engagement across Dartmouth’s schools and programs.

This is a significant opportunity to shape the future of graduate and advanced education at Dartmouth. We seek a distinguished scholar and experienced academic leader with a record of excellence in research, teaching, and mentorship; demonstrated leadership experience; and a strong commitment to supporting graduate and postdoctoral communities.

The search committee is being chaired by Hodgson Distinguished Professor of Engineering Klaus Keller. The full committee includes:

  • Allison Bailey '87, Guarini Board of Advisors
  • Andrew Campbell, Albert Bradley 1915 Third Century Professor of Computer Science
  • Yina Huang, professor of microbiology and immunology and professor of pathology and laboratory medicine
  • Klaus Keller, Hodgson Distinguished Professor of Engineering; program area lead, Energy Engineering
  • Soni Lacefield, professor of biochemistry and cell biology
  • Dean Lacy, vice provost for faculty affairs and professor of government; director, Program in Policy and Law
  • Katherine Milligan '90, Tuck '07, associate dean for health care management education
  • Katherine Nautiyal, associate professor of psychological and brain sciences; director of graduate studies in PBS
  • Daniela Molina Palacios, MED '26/MD-PhD student
  • Brian Pogue, Robert A. Pritzker Professor of Biomedical Engineering
  • Jane Seibel, associate dean for admissions, access, and recruitment, Guarini
  • Miya Qiong Xie, associate professor of Chinese and comparative East Asian literature; graduate director, Comparative Literature Program

We are grateful for their service and look forward to working together to identify Dartmouth's next dean.
