Seeking a New Director for DCAL

Dear Colleagues,

We invite members of the Dartmouth faculty to apply for the position of Director of the Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning (DCAL). This is a three-year appointment with the possibility of renewal.

DCAL serves as Dartmouth's central hub for advancing excellence, equity, and innovation in teaching and learning. The Director provides vision, leadership, and management for the Center, working in close partnership with the Provost, DCAL staff, faculty, and other campus stakeholders to strengthen Dartmouth's longstanding commitment to teaching excellence. The role includes setting strategic directions for the Center and fostering collaboration across the campus community. Through its programs, resources, and initiatives, DCAL empowers educators to cultivate effective, inclusive learning environments.

The Director also plays a key role in advancing institutional dialogue on pedagogical innovation, mentoring, and research-informed teaching; supporting faculty, postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and undergraduate peer educators; and advocating for Dartmouth's educational mission of serving all students equitably and inclusively. The position includes responsibility for staff leadership, fiscal and personnel management, strategic planning and assessment, and engagement with external partners and professional organizations in higher education teaching and learning.

This is a meaningful opportunity to shape teaching and learning at a distinctive institution where student-centered learning remains central to our identity. We seek tenured faculty members with a strong record of teaching and scholarship, demonstrated leadership experience, a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and an interest in advancing Dartmouth's pedagogical mission.

Further details about the position, including responsibilities, are available in the position description. Please share this opportunity with colleagues who may be interested. Questions about the role and letters of interest can be sent to Office.of.the.Provost@dartmouth.edu. Please submit letters of interest to that email address by Friday, Feb. 20.

Thank you for your continued commitment to teaching and learning at Dartmouth.
