Scott Pauls Reappointed as Cheheyl Professor and Director of the Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning (DCAL)

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the reappointment of Scott D. Pauls, Professor of Mathematics, as the Cheheyl Professor and Director of the Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning (DCAL), for a second term of four years, effective July 1, 2022.

This renewal recognizes Scott's efforts and commitment to advancing DCAL's strategic mission and as a strong advocate for and vocal supporter of inclusive policies and teaching strategies. DCAL is often recognized as an incubator of innovation for teaching and learning, and that was never more evident than at the beginning of the pandemic when Scott and DCAL helped the entire campus shift to on-line learning within two weeks! A few highlights during his first term include his work on the Academic Continuity effort, The First-Year Student Enrichment Program (FYSEP) curriculum, online learning initiatives, the learning Fellows program, Design Initiative at Dartmouth (DIAD), and the Universal Design programs.

In addition to Scott's leadership of DCAL, he has provided exceptional service to Dartmouth as Chair of the Teaching Transition Coordination Group—a working group initiated to help Dartmouth return to fully-in person on-campus teaching. Scott also served as Chair of the Mathematics Department and on several committees, including the Committee on Priorities (CPr), the Committee on Organization and Policy (COP), and the Committee on Instruction (COI).

Scott is a driving force behind the success of Dartmouth's teaching and learning, and I look forward to his continued partnership. Please join me in congratulating Scott on his reappointment and thanking him for his steadfast and strong leadership.

  David Kotz, Provost
